  • Overview

    Becoming a Business Process Consultant is the ideal role for a range of potential candidates who may be looking to take their career at GAIG in a new direction.  Are you constantly seeking continuous improvement?  Do you think in flowcharts?  Do you have a firm understanding of Company processes and systems?  This may be the role for you!


    This position may fluctuate between two main work streams-serving as a Product Owner for Scrum Team(s) and/or Leading Lean (Process Improvement) Initiatives (often coupled with the implementation of new technology)


    Lean Leadership Responsibilities:

    • Document current state business process and gather supporting data across multiple business units and departments
    • Analyze process and measure effectiveness; identify bottlenecks in the process, conduct root cause analysis and facilitate improvement ideas
    • Research best practices inside and outside the company; analyze process similarities and differences across multiple business units
    • Analyze new information technologies in support of optimized processes
    • Design future state workflows in collaboration with business unit staff to accomplish lean process objectives
    • Assist with organizational change management (overcoming obstacles to change, training, communication plans, etc.)

    Product Owner Responsibilities:

    • Prioritize and maintain a product backlog – driving priorities based on business value
    • Provide business leadership and subject matter expertise in defining products and other requirements for scrum team(s)
    • Provides vision, goals and context related to products for scrum team(s)
    • Identify and assign business value to user stories and features; Demonstrate understanding of both opportunities and challenges across multiple Business Units
    • Propose technology and process solutions that positively impact multiple Business Units.
    • Accept user stories and features into production
    • Advocate for iterative business deliverables and keep stakeholders informed
    • Ensure product backlog is visible, transparent, and clear to all Business & I.T. stakeholders
    • Responsible for delivering business milestones and deliverables in collaboration with Scrum Team(s)
    • Assist with Program Management in the areas of change requests, prioritization, risk and issue resolution
    • Coordinate User Group activities across multiple business units (for purposes of prioritization, issue resolution, problem solving and implementing change)



    • 3 – 5 years of related experience and understanding of common insurance systems (Policy Admin, Claims, Agency Management, CRM, etc.) is desired
    • Degree in Business or Information Technology or equivalent business experience
    • Certification within or toward Lean Six Sigma as well as insurance related designations (CPCU, ARM, AINS, etc.) are highly regarded skills
    • Demonstrated ability to breakdown complex problems into actionable solutions focused on high value customer needs
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to lead group events to meet stated objectives
    • Must be self-motivated and take initiative
    • Able to develop and leverage strategic business relationships across the organization and externally
    • Able to perform and lead in a challenging, but collaborative, work environment
    • Able to organize and plan work to satisfy established timeframes
    • Able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
