    The National Interstate Internship Program will begin in May 2019 and end in August 2019. 


    The Human Resources Intern will:

    • Understanding the employee cycle such as onboarding, payroll, benefits and leaves of absence.
    • Work within HR system to assist with PTO questions and learn components for payroll, PTO, leaves of absence.
    • Learn to work through federally required programs such as Family Medical Leave, The American’s with Disabilities Act, Workers’ Compensation and COBRA.
    • Exposure to federally required forms, organization and filing of required documentation.
    • Learn how to communicate effectively with employees through unexpected situations.
    • Partner with others on the electronic file project initiative.
    • Gain understanding of medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan benefits, base and bonus/variable compensation.
    • Exposure to benefit programs such as tuition reimbursement and wellbeing.
    • Assist with promotion and coordination of fun events like Foot Golf, Soft Ball, Bowling and others with NATL employees!  Promote the Final Fun Day and Cook Out! Attend events as needed.
    • Coordinate promotion and scheduling of Wellbeing events such as Cooking Demos, onsite massages, understanding Financial Wellness and exposure to a company-wide well-being competition.
    • Support training initiatives and sessions through enrollment communication, tracking and session support.
    • Support and assist with coordinating organization programs, training and events.
    • Complete data entry to support HR team.
    • Partner with Employee Relations team to complete stay interviews.
    • Learn what information can be shared within the department, outside the department and outside the organization as employees purchase cars, homes, seek employment outside the organization and other.


    • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college 
    • Anticipated graduation date ranging from Fall/Winter 2019 to Spring 2020
    • Prior experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Ability to read and interpret documents/data
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Attention to detail and creativity
